Within a better business future there’s a deep need for empathy – the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. At Meaning we explored this valuable human trait with artist Clare Patey – director of The Empathy Museum. Her art considers the potential of empathy through immersive experiences.

A Mile in My Shoes is an interactive art piece that invites us to put on the shoes of another person and to listen to their story as we – literally – walk in their shoes. What is it like to have spent years in prison, or to be a child growing up in Tehran, or to have rediscovered love in your eighties?

Clare brought to Meaning a collection of shoes, each pair with a unique owner and a unique story, so we can really challenge ourselves to experience a deep empathy with strangers. Clare believes this practice has the power to transform our relationships and help us tackle global challenges. Watch her talk below…
