Described by Mark Stevenson as “the most important company in the UK you’ve probably never heard of” Open Utility provides an online marketplace through which renewable energy providers can bring their services to market and interact with customers. In offering greater consumer choice, control and total transparency, Open Utility represents a fundamental challenge to the business models of established energy providers.

James took his inspiration from the architecture of the internet to model the way we buy and sell energy. At Meaning explained how he put his vision into practice and how technologies like these can enable us all to play a more democratic, localised, responsible role in the energy market.
